Phil Costello and the Five Oclock Shadows

Formerly THE HIPTET, Phil Costello and the Five O’clock Shadows is a lounge jazz act that gets people dancing. Think The Rat Pack with Roy Orbison, Elvis and Tom Jones in it. Add on some great Kiwi classics, and there’s something for everyone. The band plays the greatest hits from the last fifty years, all with a jazz flavour and a two-piece horn section keeping it real. The song list is the result of years of trial and error and the Shadows only play the winners, including the hits from these great singers: Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash, etc. Even Fatboy Slim (‘Praise You’) and The Violent Femmes (‘Blister in the Sun’) get the treatment. Songs include, ‘New York, New York’, ‘King of the Road’, ‘Ring of Fire’, ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, ‘Son of a Preacher Man’ and a whole bunch more.

Radio DJ/singer/saxophonist Phil Costello leads the charge with high energy entertainment, a great patter and a mandate to get everyone dancing.

The Liberty Swing Band is an 18 piece Dance Band based on the classic format of the Count Basie / Glenn Miller Big Bands.

Members of the Liberty Swing Band are Professional and Semi-Professional musicians from the surrounding Greater Wellington Area all sharing a love of performing Big Band music.

You will experience the excitement that only a live band can provide with outstanding instrumental and vocal performances.

The Liberty Swing Band performs regularly at Corporate or Community special events and local Fund Raisers, both in and around the Wellington Region.

Past venues have included the InterContinental Hotel, Mana Cruising Club, The Lodge On The Inlet – Pautahanui and The Victoria Hotel – Petone among many other facilities.

Wellington’s Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band specialise in this hypnotic and irresistible musical force of nature that pulls heartstrings, shakes booties and stomps feet”. (T. Rodwell)

Hailing from the windy city, Wellington, New Zealand, the Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band was formed in 2011 by Dayle Jellyman and Mike Jensen. Paying dues to legendary musician, Louis Armstrong and the New Orleans’ jazz and blues tradition from the early 1900’s, the Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band bring back to life the music that filled the saloons, brothels, sporting houses and juice joints of this bygone era.

The Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band is all about playing music that gets people up and moving, don’t look for fancy solos here, but make sure you bring your dancing shoes with you!

Having started out playing traditional tunes and arrangements of common ragtime and early jazz standards, they’ve moved towards playing entirely original music, serving up their our own version of gumbo, cornbread and collared greens, Roseneath style!

The Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band is:

James is known to Wellington audiences through his performances with Hot Club Sandwich, The Andrew London Trio and the Rodger Fox Big Band. When he’s not crooning on a cruise ship or saxing around the country he’s performing at local live music venues, at weddings and corporate events with Wellington’s best singers and musicians.

JAMES TAIT-JAMIESON performs in a 4 piece band line up so any quotes will be given for that option. Please advise us if you require him in the solo, duo, trio (all at lower cost) or larger format as he is available if required.

The Andrew London trio play an eclectic range of original songs and covers in a variety of styles ranging from 1930s swing to cool ’60s ‘latin lounge’. Songwriter/satirist Andrew London, well-known for his long-standing collaboration with Terry Crayford in their Hot Club Sandwich trio, explores middle-class obsessions and taboos in songs about rugby fans, television evangelists, weddings, male insecurities, technophobia, youth culture, household appliances, pretentious socialites, coffee, parenthood, and various other issues of concern to the average Kiwi. Woodwind exponent and songwriter Nils Olsen contributes with jazz-influenced saxophone, clarinet and flute, and more introspective original songs that provide a contrast to London’s characteristic levity. London’s recorded work now comprises eight Hot Club Sandwich albums, one of which gained a 4-star review in Downbeat USA, the world’s longest running jazz magazine; two Cattlestops albums, one of which was a finalist for the ‘Country album of the Year’ Tui award in 2007, and which featured prominently in the movie ‘Second Hand Wedding’; and one ‘Tales of Tennessee’ album featuring legendary fiddler Colleen Trenwith. In 2010 Hot Club Sandwich, which included Olsen at the time, was flown to Saudi Arabia by the New Zealand Embassy to present a series of concerts to international audiences. Olsen’s past projects include albums with C.L Bob, one of which was awarded a Tui award for jazz album of the year, and various contributions to Hot Club Sandwich albums. The trio is completed by bassist Kirsten London, also active with Kapiti-based quartet ‘Henpicked’, who have released several albums of original material, and featured at music festivals throughout NZ.
